Tyler’s Star Log Cabin Quilt

Full-Sized Star Log Cabin Quilt for Tyler
This is a quilt from Eleanor Burns’ Star Log Cabin in a Day book. I started it in the spring of 2005 and finished binding it on 16 September 2006–about 3 weeks late for DS’s 17th birthday. The top is machine pieced and machine quilted. Even though I prewashed the fabrics (which I normally don’t do), one of the blues still ran the first time I washed the quilt as you can see from the pictures. After washing and drying though, the fabrics have that soft, antiquey look and feel that I love. What can you do except grin and bear it?

The 2 sky blue looking fabrics to the left of the red center picked up blue dye (the one with the paw prints and the one right below it). [sigh] The machine quilting is a pattern from Ellen at Munnich Design called flame stipple. I was going to enter this one in the 2006 Pahrump Fall Festival, but now I’m rethinking that. DS Tyler is disappointed. He wanted to own an award-winning quilt. LOL

This is the youngest quilt inspector in the house, Ludo. There are 2 more–Muffin and Goofus. (Hey, I don’t name them. . .) Ludo was all curled up sleeping in the quilt as I was sewing the binding on the quilt back. You can see the *real* colors of the 2 fabrics that took the blue dye at the bottom of the picture.

2006 Pahrump Fall Festival Ribbons
Well, Tyler won out and I went ahead and entered the quilt in the festival. . . taking a second place and reserve lot champion ribbon for a quilt I consider a disaster. LOL Only goes to prove that quilt judging is very subjective (I certainly wouldn’t have given it the high marks I received!); but Tyler is *very* proud of his “award-winning” quilt. As his quilter-mom, I guess that’s all that matters.
