Koren’s Black, White & Pink Yellow Brick Road Quilt

This picture was some of the inspiration for a quilt project I wanted to start for my future DIL Koren

I was browsing a book on antique quilts and I found one that caught my eye using the “Love Entangled” block. In just an instant my mind (which I CANNOT shut off when it comes to new ideas!*), had me making a black, white & pink quilt for Koren for Christmas. A search on the Internet turned up free instructions for the block.

Never mind that I have *no* extra money for fabric, or that I only have one black & white FQ, or that Christmas is in 6 weeks or so. . . I *really* do like the color combo and I love the spiritual symbolism in a block entitled “Love Entangled” as it relates to our relationships with God and each other. It reminds of Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12**. So I plan to do a quilt. . . for Koren. . . for Christmas.

As it turns out, I ran out of time before I had the money to start this project so I needed something quick and easy. I settled on a Black, White & Pink Yellow Brick Road lap-sized quilt for Koren

I was able to get it together in 3 days and had it done in time to wrap for our Christmas celebration on Christmas Eve–a rare event for me! Koren loved it and immediately curled up in it on the couch. That’s why I like to give quilts because the recipient is always wrapped up in love when they use it.

I wish I had thought to get a picture of the backing fabric. . . It’s black and white penguins. Very cute! Here’s a picture of the quilting detail.

The Love Entangled project has been shelved for another time.

*As a side note: The only way I figure I can shut off the flow of ideas is to live in a sterile white room and have no contact with the outside world–which I’m not about to do. I have pages & pages of ideas of things I want to accomplish. Just yesterday a catalog arrived from an art print company trying to sell me art prints. . . all I could see was quilt ideas!!

**Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12: Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord (husband, wife & the Lord) is not quickly broken. (Emphasis mine)
